We have broken our web site into pieces
We had a nice and beautiful web site. Then we decided to break it into pieces. Why did we do that? Here are some good reasons.
At the beginning our web site was dedicated to what we do: software development. As our business was evolving, we were developing new products and covering new areas. The software development site become a solution center for various industries: Insurance, Legal and Membership Management. This move confused our future customers who wondered what exactly we were doing. It become too crowded, and finally had to be split in 4 specific sites, one for each sector we were covering.
There are other reasons for that as well: Google likes it that way. They are after all, ones whorecommend us to others. They place us on the first page of their search results. The search result is their major product and they want the product to be as good and as relevant as possible. They want to know exactly what we are offering and once they put us in the search result, they want to be able to stand behind us. It pays off to have clearly stated the purpose of each of our web sites.
Now the question is how a software development company goes about developing 4 new web sites at the same time. If it was one, it would be like anything else: specify, create project, engage designer etc. But four sites at the same time? We can’t just make one site and copy 3 more times. This is not a simple thing anymore. That is now the challenge.
So we did what could be predicted: we created our own platform for developing new sites. We made templates, tools, everything had to be database driven, and we wanted to be able to add components on fly, to be optimised for Google etc. Using the platform, it was a breeze to make the sites.
Now the question is what to do with the power platform, once the sites ware completed? We couldn’t just leave it there. There was no other way but to elevate it to become another product that we can now offer to the public. To come to that point we had to do some additional wor. This forced us to simplify it, improve, empower, shrink wrap and document. Finally, it was ready to become our new product. But there was one thing still missing. We needed a web site for that new product! Luckily we had a platform to build the web site on! So the fifth web site was born.
With 5 websites, we have done a lot of design that we are proud of. So, if we put those 5 designs together, they would make a nice portfolio for a web site design service. This is a chance for us to offer our design capabilities to clients.
Did I say we had 5 designs to show? Make it 6, including the new web site for our design offer.
Won’t go any further.
